From shift duty and 5 LPA to a 10 to 14 LPA IT career, with a small son at home: the story of Rajnee

Rajnee spent ten years in a non-IT job in Pune on about 5 LPA. With a small son and shift duty she retrained, and now earns 10 to 14 LPA, mostly from home.

B.Tech · Ten years in a non-IT job in Pune · About 5 LPA, shift duty, no work from home · Now: a core IT role at 10 to 14 LPA, three to four days a week from home

For ten years Rajnee did everything she had been told to do. She finished her B.Tech. She found a steady job in Pune and kept it. She showed up for every shift. And after a decade of that, her package was still around 5 LPA, because the job was not an IT job, and nothing about the degree on her wall changed what the role paid.

What the salary did not show

The number was the smaller problem.

Shift duty, with a small son at home. Every change in the roster meant rearranging his day: who would pick him up, who would be with him, whether she would see him before he slept.

No work from home, ever. On the days he needed her most, she still had to be physically at work.

The fear of losing the job. Ten years in, she knew what a layoff would mean. Not only the income: a decade of experience that counted for little anywhere else.

And the stress. The daily kind, the kind that comes home with you and sits at the dinner table.

Most people in that position tell themselves the same thing: I am ten years into my career, I have a family, I cannot start again from zero. Rajnee did not start from zero. She started with direction.

Not from zero: with direction

She did not pick a trending course or work through somebody's playlist. She did two things.

She took advice from people who work in the industry. They looked at her background, her family situation and the hours she actually had, and mapped a route that fitted her life rather than an ideal one. It was built around a working mother on shift duty, not around a twenty-two-year-old with free evenings.

She built one specialised skill that companies need now and will keep needing. Not the entry-level work that AI tools are already absorbing, which we looked at in our article on fresher hiring, but the kind of responsibility a business still hands to a skilled person it trusts.

That is the whole method. It is the same one on our roadmap, and it does not get shorter because you are older. It gets more focused.

Where she is today

Before Now
Non-IT job, about 5 LPA Core IT role, 10 to 14 LPA
Shift duty No night shifts
No work from home Three to four days a week from home
Afraid of losing the job A skill that is in demand
Very high stress Time with her son, and room to grow

Her salary has roughly doubled. Ask her what changed most, though, and it is probably not the money. She is at home with her son most days of the week, and she is not afraid of Monday mornings any more.

If she could, why not you?

Rajnee did not have a career gap to explain, and she did not have an IT background to lean on. She had ten years in another field, a small child, shift duty and a job she could not afford to lose.

If you are telling yourself any of these:

  • "I am too far into my current career."
  • "I have family responsibilities."
  • "I am not from an IT background."
  • "What if I fail?"

She had every one of those reasons too. Our reality check for people being talked out of IT deals with the first three. The fourth is answered by doing the work with someone checking it.

She did not have a shortcut. She had the right guidance and the right skill, and both are available to you. The working-professionals track is built for exactly this situation, with the specialisation chosen on the counselling call, and placement work continues until you are hired, as long as you stay engaged with the program. Rajnee is in Pune; our classes are live and online, so the city does not matter.
